 The Swarovski Crystal®
Beaded Flower Collection
In 2001, I was commissioned to create beaded flowers, using crystals by Swarovski of Austria, for an advertising campaign.
Because a large number of flowers was needed in a very short time, I ultimately enlisted the aid of several other designers, Caren Cohen, Rosemary Kurtz, Elaine Cobb and, the late Judy Heller.
Using large beads, to create a beaded flower, often results in a very "chunky" looking object. Although that can be seen in these pictures, the crystals more than made up for the shortcomings.
Sending them to Austria, nearly broke my heart!

Unless you are a professional photographer, you need to apologize for the quality of photos taken of Swarovski Crystals®. The crystals are so light reflective that they mimic precious gems. The flowers shown, below, are breath-taking, in person, but lack "fire" when photographed. These flowers are now the property of Swarovski Crystal®, of Austria, but my patterns are available on my pattern page.

Ganutell
Ganutell is a Maltese method of creating flowers. It utilizes wire and embroidery floss.
Because the techniques are so similar, this a "natural" addition for flower beaders. It is also a wonderful 3-D addition to any embroidery project. If you have never made a flower using Ganutell or beads, my Basic Instruction booklet, available on my "Books and Patterns" page makes a great companion reference.
The advantages, when compared to beaded flowers, are; the flowers are light weight, they have the look of satin, they don't take as much physical strength, to create, and elegant miniatures are a snap. The flowers incorporate several basic techniques, all are outstandingly elegant. These flowers are infinitely suited to apparel and jewelry applications.
Since I learned the basics, using "Ganutell" - Caren Cohen, I am bowing to her for your basic instruction booklet. It will be a necessary addition in order to complete the following.
